We have reached the halfway stage of the 2022 Tolchards Devon League Premier Division season with nine games completed and nine games to go for our two men’s senior XIs.
How are things going in the respective XIs?
The 1st XI have won four and lost four with one abandoned and currently sit seventh with 105 points. That’s seven points better off than second bottom Paignton (98 pts) with Hatherleigh (77pts) occupying the bottom slot. Cornwood are third bottom with 100 pts. Looking further up the table. Leaders North Devon have 139 points, four more than second placed Sandford (135) with Heathcoat (121 pts) third and Sidmouth (113), Bovey Tracey (111) and Plymouth (108) occupying the places immediately above us.

BATTING
Gary Chappell leads the way in terms of runs scored (286), with the 1,2,3,4 being; Chappell (286), Tim Piper (227), Ross Acton (223) and Mitchell Pugh (155).
The rest of the ‘top 12’ in terms of runs scored reads:
Dan Hardy (89), Chad Classen (65), Eliot Acton (53), Josh Farley (45), Thom Bunker (41), Ankit Badwal (40), Sam Franks (30) and Darren Paul (12).
In terms of the ‘best average’………………..
Tim Piper (45.40) leads the way followed by Ross Acton (44.60), Gary Chappell (40.85) and Mitch Pugh (38.75).
The rest of the leading averages (in double figures) are: Dan Hardy (29.50), Eliot Acton (26.50), Chad Classen (16.25), Ankit Badwal (13.33), Thom Bunker (10.25) and Sam Franks (10.00).
BOWLING
In terms of wicket taking it’s skipper Gary Chappell leading the way with 17. Mitch Pugh has 10, Josh Farley 9 and Ross Acton 6. Next, it’s Chad Classen 5 and Eliot Acton 4
The top bowling averages belong to Gary Chappell (12.48) with the best of the rest being Mitch Pugh (25.20), Josh Farley (27.89), Aryan Raignagar (38.50) and Chad Classen (39.60).
The most overs sent down so far this term is the 67 bowled by Ross Acton while Gary Chappell has bowled 65, Josh Farley 54 and both Mitch Pugh and Chad Classen have sent down 46.3 overs.
CATCHES
Wicket keeper Darren Paul has pouched 10 catches so far and the top number of out-fielding catches is 4 held by Tim Piper while Eliot Acton has caught three and its two catches so far for Ross Acton, Gary Chappell, Dan Hardy and Chad Classen.
The 2nd XI batting at the halfway stage of the, in terms of runs scored, is headed by Ankit Badwal (271). The best of the rest is Will Birley (219) and the other 2nd XI bats to have over 100 runs at the midway stage of the season are Connor Carthew (161), Paul Nott (157), Sam Franks (128) and Dave ‘Digger’ Penberthy (121).
The batting averages are topped by Sam Franks (64.00) with the ‘best of the rest’ being Dave Penberthy (60.50), Ankit Badwal (54.25) and Connor Carthew (40.25). Other solid averages belong to Will Birley (31.24), Josh Richards (30.00), Paul Nott (22.42) and James Mills (19.66).
The 2nd XI bowling at the halfway stage of the campaign, in wicket taking terms, is topped by Chris Acton (8). The others who have four or more wickets are: Ankit Badwal and Ryan Shrewsberry (6); Will Birley (5) and both James Mills and Nick Acton have four.
The best bowling average belongs to Will Birley (11.40) and the ‘best of the rest’ is Chris Acton (18.25) followed by James Mills (24.25), Ankit Badwal (29.50), Ryan Shrewsberry (32.00) and Nick Acton (51.50).
The 2nd XI catching charts are topped by both Dave Penberthy and Connor Carthew who each have five to their name. Both have taken catches behind the stumps as wicket keeper with ‘Digger’ taking all five with the gloves on while Connor has taken two with the gloves and held three – all in the same game – at slip! Chris Acton and Paul Nott have each held three catches and its two catches for Ryan Shrewsberry, Liam Reed, Jason Dowrick and Will Birley.
