Bradninch & Kentisbeare Ladies chalked up a terrific five wicket win when they took on Exeter Ladies in a Devon Womens Cricket League Super 8s East group fixture contested at Kensham Park.
The visiting skipper won the toss and opted to bat first but saw he team lose regular wickets before closing their 16overs with a score of 91-6.
It was penultimate batter Grace Golsworthy who top scored, hitting 17 from just six deliveries – four of them drilled to the boundary.
The ‘best of the rest’ was a knock of 14 from opener Hannah Grice – her runs scored off 23 balls faced – but the only other double figure contribution with the bat was the 30-ball ten scored by Daisy Aldridge.
In an excellent all-round bowling and fielding display, all but one of the six bowlers used by B&K skipper Meg Acton claimed at least one wicket.
The pick of the bowling returns was the Florence Elliott return of 2-15 from three overs while Heather Stanbury also bagged a brace of wickets – her figures being 2-13 from two overs. Yvonne Jackson (1-23 from four) and Faye Ross (1-23 from three) were the other wicket takers while the one bowler without a wicket was Abby Hayes (0-18 from four).
Four catches were held, two by Yvonne Jackson and one each by Faye Ross and skipper Meg Acton.
Rain hit the contest to leave B&K chasing a lower target than the total Exeter had posted and the contest was won – and in some style too – on 78-2 after just eight overs!
Emma Farley opened and top scored with a 17-ball 21, hitting two fours and the next best was the unbeaten knock of 19 from Florence Elliott – her runs scored off just nine balls while skipper Meg Acton faced only five balls for her unbeaten10 and she also scored two boundaries.
Heather Stanbury chipped in with seven runs from 20 balls.
