Bradninch & Kentisbeare Ladies were beaten by 13 runs when they faced hosts Clyst St George Ladies at their Bohea Field home in a Super Eights meeting.
Clyst St George Ladies batted first and they ended their 16 overs with a score of 130-3 with one of the wickets being a run-out and there were two wickets for teenager Faye Ross – her very first delivery knocking over the stumps of opener Clare Pearson!
For the home side Katie De Pelet (30 from 31) and Daisy Bishop (35 from 33) and Esme Brooks who scored an unbeaten 25 off the 27 balls she received, scored the bulk of the runs.
Fi Moran and Sarah Stanbury launched the reply and made steady progress reaching 42 without loss at the halfway point (eight overs completed) of the innings.
During the ninth over Sarah reached 30 (scored off 35 balls) at which point she retired with her wicket intact and Paula Rovira came out to the middle to join Fi Moran. Rovira scored a run-a-ball four before she fell and then Faye Ross came and went for two which left skipper Megan Acton to hit a rapid 31 before she retired with her wicket intact.
Vicky West (4) and Heather Stanbury (1) were the not out batsmen at the close as B&K ‘ran out of overs’, closing on 117-2 after their 16 overs, losing the contest by 13 runs.
Earlier in the day the B&K Ladies were in impressive form, beating ‘the neighbours’ by a margin of 68 runs.
After the home side won the toss and opted to field first it was opener Fi Moran, with a 17-ball 30 and skipper Meg Acton with an 18-ball 33 together with a whopping 54 extras (30 wides and 20 no balls) that were central to the B&K closing 16 over total of 157-4.
Then the bowlers got down to their work to bundle Cully out for 89 in just 12 overs and one ball to leave B&K Ladies the winners by a margin of 68 runs.
There were some terrific performances with the ball from the B&K ladies with the pick of the returns being the 3-21 from Faye Ross – and most impressive was that all three of the Faye wickets were from hitting the stumps!
Meg Acton claimed a brace of wickets for just 11 runs after sending down two overs and one ball. The skipper was also responsible for a run-out. Abby Hayes was the other wicket taker with her return being 1-31 from four overs.
The full B&K Ladies on duty for the Super Eights were: Meg Acton (Captain), Fi Moran, Sarah Stanbury, Heather Stanbury, Abby Hayes, Paula Rovira, Vi West and Faye Ross.
