Bradninch & Kentisbeare Ladies were 69-run winners when they travelled to Clyst St George for their latest fixture in the Devon Women’s League Division Two.
After winning the toss, the home skipper asked visiting skipper Meg Acton to get her batters padded up and the B&K innings was given its greatest support by Yvonne Jackson who hit a 95-ball 57, hitting six fours while teenager Emma Farley struck a terrific 53-ball 47, hitting seven fours while skipper Meg Acton faced 30 balls for her five boundary 27.
The best of the wicket partnerships was the one for the fourth wicket that saw Yvonne Jackson and young Emma Farley add 84 runs, and in good time too!
It all helped B&K post a very healthy total of 186-5 after 35 overs.
The other B&K players to bat were Fi Moran, who was bowled without troubling the scorers, Florence Elliott, who was bowled for a 14-ball 11 and the two not out batters at the close were Abbey Hayes with nine runs from 15 balls and Paula Rovira with four runs from seven balls.
The four players who were not needed to bat were Sarah Stanbury, Vi West, Helen Stanbury and Justine Reed.
In terms of the Clyst St George bowling effort, they used seven different bowlers and the pick of the returns was the 2-17 from the seven overs sent down by Alice Johnson while three other bowlers, Esme Brooks, Bella Wells and Ava Donald, each claimed a single wicket.
When the home side batted they lost opener Alyssia Hayes to the seventh delivery of the innings thanks to a catch by Sarah Stanbury to give Abbey Hayes a wicket.
Hayes struck again in the eighth over to see an end to the Daisy Bishop (19) innings. That left CSG two down with 28 runs on the board.
B&K skipper Meg Acton then knocked over the stumps of Esme Brooks which meant CSG were 47-3 after 16 overs and one ball, now needing 140 runs from 18 overs and five balls.
Bella Wells and Mollie Stokes then put together a tidy partnership, but the run rate was increasing in light of some terrific B&K bowling. Indeed, at 72-4 after 23 overs, C&G required another 115 runs from the final 12 overs at almost 10 runs per over! When the score reached 87, Emma Farley produced a throw to run out Stokes; the home opener trooped back with a 78-ball 27, hitting two fours, to her name.
Eighty-seven for four was soon 90-5 as Heather Stanbury claimed the wicket of Mollie Walker and, when the final over began, CSG stood on 112-5.
That final over yielded just four more runs to leave the home side closing their 35 overs on 117-5 meaning Bradninch & Kentisbeare Ladies were winners by a margin of 69 runs.
The pick of the B&K bowling returns was the 2-15 from the seven overs sent down by Abbey Hayes and the other two bowlers to claim a wicket were Heather Stanbury and skipper Meg Acton.
