Previously at Hatherleigh…….

We last visited Hatherleigh to contest a Devon League fixture on Saturday, June 1, 2019 when both sides were in the A Division.

It was a game that saw 20 wickets fall, but Bradninch prevailed to take the honours by a big margin – 110 runs. Batting first, Bradninch were led to an all out total of 241 in two balls shy of 50 overs by a 41-ball 67 from Gary Chappell who hit 14 fours in his innings and there were supporting knocks of 36 from both Tim Piper and Ross Acton. It was Acton who then claimed the first home wicket with Charlie Sheen holding a catch off the fourth delivery of the match. ‘Roscoe’ went on to claim no fewer than six wickets, finishing with figures of 6-15 from a full shift of 10 overs, four of which were maidens.

Prior to that, the previous visit for Bradninch 1st XI to Hatherleigh came the year before with an August 11, 2018 meeting, again in an A Division fixture and once again ‘Ninch’ took the honours. In a contest that was hit by bad weather, Bradninch restricted the home side to a 32 over score of 175-8 before facing a revised target of 137 in 22 overs, closing out a close encounter on 137-8 with just two balls to spare! Charlie Walker top scored with a 27-ball 44, hitting six fours and two sixes while Rory Thomas, from the opening slot, hit 38 and, at the death, it was Chris Acton, with nine runs from six balls and Leon Horn, who ended three not out from nine deliveries, who saw Ninch to a two wicket win.
